Air and Journey - Brass Band
'Air and Journey’ is a new piece written for brass band which depicts the views of Chatelerhault Country Park in South Lanarkshire. It was commissioned by the Scottish Brass Band Association in 2021 to provide new music for Youth Bands.
During the Covid-19 pandemic the composer spent lots of time walking round this picturesque place and imagined seeing the park from the eyes of an Osprey. Places to see include the Avon Bridge, River Avon, Duke’s Monument, Duke’s Bridge, Cadzow Castle, Ancient Oak’s Medow and the numerous forest trails.
The music takes the listener on a journey starting with an atmospheric opening and emotive melody and, develops into an exciting flight over the park.
